Within & Without is inspired by one of my favorite lines by F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby:

“I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.”

Painted after a night on a rooftop in Manhattan, Within & Without captures a suspended moment in time, the quiet stillness that exists amid motion. It’s about the duality of being both participant and observer, of feeling immersed in the city’s rhythm yet somehow separate from it.

Like Nick Carraway, I found myself watching life unfold from a distance, one foot in and one foot out. This state of awareness, "the witness," remains a constant source of inspiration in my work.

This diptych is a meditation on modern isolation, curiosity, and quiet observation, a still moment within the endless rhythm of the city.
